Man charged in attempted kidnapping of 11-year old girl

Sheriff Chip Simmons said in a press conference Thursday that a 30-year old man has been charged in the attempted kidnapping of an 11-year old girl at her bus stop in West Pensacola.

The incident was caught on surveillance video and occurred around 7 a.m. at the bus stop located on Old Corry Field Road and Perdido Street in West Pensacola. The girl fought off her attackers, who was armed with a knife.

The suspects name has not yet been released, but the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office confirms the suspect has a history of past sexual offenses with a child.

“She is my hero,” Sheriff Simmons said. “This animal is off the street…We can once again applaud the efforts and resilience of that 11-year-old girl.”

Investigators obtained surveillance video of the man at numerous convenience stores prior to the attempted kidnapping. Approximately 50 deputies then worked the area trying to identify and locate the suspect. Deputies then tracked the man to a home in the 200-block of Betty Road in Escambia County. At the home, they then located the vehicle that was involved in the incident, , a white Dodge Journey, which had just been freshly painted.

The suspect was in the same clothing he had earlier today and during the incident, and he also had blue slime on his arm- which the girl had been playing with at the time of the attack, presumably which had been transferred to his person during the altercation.

Deputies took the man into custody around 5 p.m., where he was later charged with attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault with a knife. and simple battery.
