“Rep. Gaetz: Resign” Billboards Appear In Northwest Florida

Northwest Florida commuters may have noticed a new billboard campaign calling for Rep. Matt Gaetz’ resignation. The digital billboards, which appear to be placed near interstate exits and freeways with heavy traffic, read  “You lied about the election. The Capitol was attacked. Rep. Gaetz: Resign.”

The nearly $1 million dollar billboard campaign is being orchestrated by the Republican Accountability Project. The group’s website states they are “targeting GOP lawmakers who were the most irresponsible during the aftermath of the 2020 election.” Other lawmakers who are being asked to resign are Rep. Dan Bishop of North Carolina, Rep. Mo Books of Alabama, Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri, Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, Rep. Devin Nunes of California, Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California and Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York.

Over the next month, the group plans to launch over 100 digital and print billboards in the districts of these prominent lawmakers, and plans to follow up with targeted a television commercial campaign set to air during “Fox and Friends” and “Hannity.”

The Repbulican Accountability Project website is divided into two stark categories, labeled  “Courage” and “Cowardice.” Under the “Courage” section, the group praises “courageous defenders of democracy,” and lists the Republicans who voted to impeach President Trump. Those listed include Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyoming), whom Rep. Matt Gaetz recently rallied against in her home state, encouraging constituents to oust her during the next primary. Under the “Cowardice” section, other lawmakers are identified who allegedly “abetted the insurrection on January 6 and ignored, excused, or even participated in the dog whistles to QAnon and other dangerous conspiracy theories.”
