A major Gulf Breeze-based company that employs more than 270 people is being purchased by a Dallas-based email security firm for $275 million.
The Zix Corporation announced Tuesday it has entered into an agreement to purchase AppRiver, a provider of cloud-based cybersecurity products, in a cash deal. The acquisition is set to close in March.
“We’re incredibly excited about AppRiver joining forces with the publicly traded Zix Corporation,” AppRiver Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Joel Smith told The Pulse.
“Zix, a market leader in compliance solutions, focuses on small and medium enterprises, which complement AppRiver’s own cybersecurity and productivity solutions. That gives us the ability to offer a more complete suite of security services to our 4,500-strong reseller community and makes the combined company a powerful force in the market.”
Founded in 2002, AppRiver has grown quickly, serving more than 60,000 companies worldwide. In addition to its headquarters in Gulf Breeze, they have offices in Austin, Atlanta, Canada, and throughout Europe.
“This is great news for Northwest Florida as it effectively adds a new, top-tier player to the already impressive CyberCoast lineup that includes the best of private-sector, institutional, and governmental organizations,” Smith added.
“Over the past two years, Zix has been successfully executing on its strategy of becoming a leading provider of email security for compliance,” said David Wagner, Zix’s Chief Executive Officer.
Smith said the merger with Zix is a good move forward for both companies.
“It was incredibly important to AppRiver that anyone we team with shares our commitment to customers, partners, employees, and our CyberCoast community,” Smith said. “Our conversations with Zix have given us the assurance that this is the right move at the right time for both companies. We look forward an exciting future as part of Zix.”
With its corporate headquarters in Dallas, Zix currently has regional offices in Seattle, Ann Arbor, Burlington, and Ottawa. Regarding any potential changes at its Gulf Breeze-based corporate offices, Smith stated that they expect continued growth in the Pensacola area as the companies are integrated.
