The popular Moe’s Original B Que chain will open its newest outpost next month in Destin, Fla., marking the second Florida location for the company.
The restaurant will open at 303 Harbor Boulevard in the former Buck’s Smokehouse, a popular local barbecue spot which closed its doors last month. Buck’s owner Mike Buckingham is a partner in the new Moe’s location.
“As I grew up spending time in Destin, I knew the Emerald Coast would be the ideal community to run my own restaurant and make our new home,” said Mike Fernandez, a founding partner in the company who will serve as local owner/operator of the Destin outpost. “For this location, I am partnering with Brett Mancuso, who already has a successful Moe’s in Atlanta, and Mike Buckingham, who is allowing us to transform his popular Buck’s Smokehouse. In the future, we plan to open more of our restaurants in the surrounding areas, including 30A.”
The Colorado-based company was founded by “three Alabama boys” in 2002 and has since expanded to more than 65 locations in 16 states and Mexico. Other Gulf Coast locations include Panama City, Fla. and Orange Beach, Daphne, Foley, and Mobile, Ala.
Company representatives said while the new Destin location would retain most of Buck’s decor and beachy atmosphere, the menu will feature all of Moe’s Original “award-winning classics.” Meats include pork, ribs, wings, turkey, and chicken smoked over hardwood, and seafood options include catfish and a shrimp sandwich. The menu also features a daily rotation of traditional sides and house-made desserts.
Moe’s Original Bar B Que has been named one of the Top 10 Rib Joints in the U.S. by Relish.com, and one of the Top 10 BBQ Chains in America by USA Today and The Daily Meal. The Destin location is set to debut mid-February and will open daily at 11:00 a.m. In addition to lunch and dinner, the restaurant will also offer large party takeout orders as well as full service catering for parties, fundraisers and events.
