Portions of the Gulf Islands National Seashore that closed due to Tropical Storm Cindy have now reopened, including Fort Pickens Road, officials said Saturday.

The park’s Santa Rosa and Fort Pickens areas reopened Saturday afternoon after park crews completed debris cleanup and repair work. The seashore’s Okaloosa Area remains closed due to standing water.

The Fort Pickens Campground is open for walk-in campers starting Saturday evening, and reservations for the campground will be honored starting Monday evening. Campground staff will do their best to accommodate as many campers who arrive on Saturday and Sunday as possible; campers are asked to call the campground office to make arrangements.

National Seashore areas on Santa Rosa Island were closed and the Fort Pickens Campground was evacuated this week as Tropical Storm Cindy approached the Gulf Coast.  High tides and waves pushed gulf waters over park roadways, and heavy rains caused significant flooding.  The Naval Live Oaks, Fort Barrancas, and Perdido Key Areas remained open and were not impacted by the storm.
