Covenant Care and Sacred Heart Health System on Tuesday announced a partnership to open an inpatient hospice care center at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

Opening in the summer of 2017, the 10,000 square foot hospice center will be located on the first floor of the hospital and will consist of 17 patient rooms. Staffed by Covenant Care, the center will provide patients and families with around-the-clock hospice and palliative care services. Each patient room will be equipped with comfortable seating and sleeping accommodations for guests, and visiting hours will be unlimited.

Many patients with life-limiting illnesses reach a point in their lives where their loved ones are no longer able to provide the care they need to address complex issues, officials said. Those typically admitted to an inpatient hospice center need help controlling pain and symptoms related to their diagnosis or have family that is in need of respite care.

“Bringing an inpatient hospice center like this to Pensacola will help to relieve anxiety that families and patients who need access to these special services often encounter,” said Jeff Mislevy, president and CEO of Covenant Care. “This project will give us the opportunity to combine our expertise and resources with one of the area’s leading healthcare providers.”

“We are very pleased by this opportunity to provide for our community a dedicated inpatient hospice center at Sacred Heart for those patients in need of such care,” said Henry Stovall, president of Sacred Heart Hospital.  “We are also very appreciative of the opportunity to partner with Covenant Care, a not-for-profit organization that shares our commitment to serve all persons in our community.”
