State Senate candidate Mike Hill and his wife are entitled to a property tax exemption they’ve claimed at their home in Pensacola’s Marcus Pointe neighborhood, according to a release from Escambia County Property Appraiser Chris Jones.

An investigation was prompted after an anonymous complaint alleged Hill was not eligible for a homestead exemption on the Marcus Pointe home because he is registered to vote at a condo the Hills lease on Pensacola Beach.

Hill said last week that the family spends time in both homes, calling the complaint a “dirty trick” which he attributed to the campaign of opponent Doug Broxson.

“I am pleased to see the property appraiser issue a press release clearing me of any wrongdoing,” said Hill on Thursday. “I am disappointed my opponent has engaged in political gamesmanship throughout this entire campaign. I am confident the voters will see these dirty tricks for what they are. I would be honored to serve them in the Florida Senate.”

Jones said that the investigation had been closed after the Hill family submitted additional information, including affidavits from Hill, his wife Greta, and their daughter, correspondence from the family’s attorney, and a new homestead exemption application.
