Pensacola Police secure $105K in grant funds

Pensacola’s city council is slated next week to consider the acceptance of $105,000 in grant dollars intended for the Pensacola Police Department.

$70,000 comes from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant; according to PPD, $60,433 would be used to provide overtime for officers to work in “known violent crime areas with the goal of reducing firearm usage.” The remaining $9,567 would be used to cover annual fees for access to the LeadsOnline investigative database.

Another $35,000 has been awarded from a Florida Department of Transportation DUI Enforcement Grant; the department plans to allocate $20,400 toward overtime and $14,600 toward the purchase of two breathalyzer machines.

Neither of the grants requires a local match.
